Fruit: Round, 1-2" commonly yellow fruits are pleasantly crispy, with the taste and smell of rosewater. Fruits also occur in pale green, white, pink and red. Fruiting occurs on and off nearly all year in tropical regions, with more fruit produced in the rainy seasons. In the US subtropics, fruiting is concentrated from May to July, but the tree may still flower sporadically any time of year.

History/Origin: Rose apple is native to Southeast Asia, but has naturalized extensively in India and neighboring tropical areas. It has been introduced to nearly every tropical/subtropical region conducive to it's growth, and has frequently naturalized to an invasive level, much like the closely related Java Plum (syzygium cumini).

Species Observations: This tree enjoys sandy soils of moderate fertility. With mature trees, the ground beneath will often be littered with seedlings. The seeds are disbursed in the wild largely by mammals (particularly humans, of course).

Propogation: By seed, air layer, or graft.

Container Culture: Possible.
