Maca is traditionally a food eaten in some quantity as part of the diet. Food forms of maca have become increasingly popular, with many products of raw flours, gelatinized powders, or maca chips now available at most health food stores. These food forms are often used teaspoons or tablespoons at a time therapeutically, and naturally such quantities are not suitable for putting into relatively small capsules. We were only comfortable making a maca capsule product that could capture the profile and potency of eating maca, with all it's dynamic nutritional components and benefits.

To make this maca extract, freshly harvested white maca roots are first macerated and then squeezed, deriving a thick, nutrient dense maca juice (it takes about 40kg+ of fresh maca to make 1kg of the dry juice!). This rich, thick maca juice is then dried to a hard, crystallized and nutrient dense form, and ground to a fine powder. This type of maca is significantly stronger, gram per gram, than our food-form black gelatinized maca. It's superior concentration makes it suitable for smaller capsule-size quantities. Since much of maca's goitrogen content is removed along with the fiber of the root, this preparation is also lower in goitrogens than most raw-maca based products. Like our black gelatinized maca, it is ideal for dissolution and good absorption into the body.

How is our crystallized maca extract different?

Our capsule product is neither a food-form maca powder/flour (such as maca flour, or gelatinized maca), nor is it an alkaloid-only extract. These are the types of products that are currently prevalent the market. This is a dense nutritional concentration which we feel is fuller, stronger, and most accurately captures the broad nutrition and effects we love about maca, into a capsule form. This is a warm, energetic, effective capsule product. We really enjoy using this new product, and hope you will too!
